Application-led procurement

Heavy duty truck alternator matching for high electrical-load fleets

Each scenario starts with a documented part requirement, not an assumed universal fit.

Requirements by buying scenario

Parts wholesale

Clarify catalog references, packing units, assortment and reorder expectations. For a heavy duty truck alternator line, keep 12 V and 24 V families on separate sheets and ask whether the pulley and regulator travel with the assembly. Gross package weight and minimum order quantity, if quoted, belong next to the packing unit rather than in marketing copy. New versus remanufactured lines must stay separate: new units need a new-build and packing statement, while remanufactured units need remanufacturing scope, core charge and inspection records before prices are compared.

Workshop distribution

Clarify installation position, included hardware and vehicle application range. Mounting ear spacing, overall length and connector pin count should be restated against the engine code. A workshop stocking a mixed aftermarket assortment still needs model year coverage written down, not inferred from housing shape.

Fleet purchasing

Separate vehicle configurations and planned quantities by application. Idle output at governed rpm matters when hotel loads, PTOs or liftgates stay on. Ask suppliers for speed-defined output rather than a single amp headline, and keep sample approval distinct from later batch traceability. A signed sample identifier is not automatic proof that the next production lot matches; agree which checks repeat on the batch and how mismatches are handled.

Special project inquiry

Document altered interfaces and request supplier confirmation before accepting alternatives. Custom clocking, dual pulley offsets or a one-wire conversion on a truck circuit are project changes, not catalog swaps. Leave OE reference as identification only; do not treat it as an authorization path.
